Deals splash damage, but its true strength lies in its upgraded forms.

Strategy

  • A Seedling is the base form of Sakura upgrade path. While it is similar to other base form of tier 1 units in the game by providing very little base health and damage to the board, its special ability is what distinguishes it from other tier 1 units in the early game if used correctly.
  • The ability of a Seedling deals 100% of its basic attack damage to the nearby units, somewhat similarly to a Honeyflower.
    • Since the basic damage of a Seedling is 2 magic damage, during the early game, where the health of the wave creatures is still low, the DPS of a Honeyflower is matched by a total of 5 Seedlings, or 75 gold.
    • The relative strength of a seedling as an early cost effective DPS unit that allow it to support other units effectively, most notably on Wave 3: Hoppers paired with a Sky Queen or Nightmare, allowing either to kill the Hoppers in 2 attacks instead of 3.
      • There are other effective unit combinations in the game utilizing seedling, evaluate with the following logic : Does it reach damage thresholds or provide equivalent DPS of an Role Aoe.png AOE unit?
  • Another use of a Seedling is to ignore an early tank mercenary send. This is a slightly more advanced strategy and requires knowledge of how to split the wave.
    • While splitting the wave with only Seedlings early, it is possible to damage the wave for the same amount as the tank mercenary sent to your lane.
      • Due to the targeting algorithm, the wave's health becomes lower in terms of total percentage and will be prioritized making your other units ignore the mercenary until all the other creatures are slain.
      • This trick allows you to counter some early tank mercenary sends aimed at denying your main damage source for the wave. Killing the whole wave is often more valuable then to kill the tank mercenary to minimize the economic damage you could suffer.
  • There is a risk involved with using Seedling too loosely, and that is why a spamming strategy can be ineffective with them.
    • The primary threat to spamming is a Safety Mole. A Safety Mole is the perfect mercenary send to counter a Seedling.
    • Since the base damage of the Seedling is so low, when a Safety Mole is sent to your lane and you have a Seedling focused strategy, they become virtually useless because of a Safety Mole's damage reduction aura.
      • Due to its greatly reduced damage, no thresholds can be met, no tank mercenary can be ignored, and it cannot help to boost the DPS of an AoE composition.
      • Because of this threat, it is wiser to invest very little in Seedling in the early game to boost your pushing capabilities, but quickly deviate from it so you are not vulnerable to a Safety Mole send.
  • The Seedling can be upgraded into a Chloropixie, arguably providing the strongest opener for the Fiesta mastermind. As of April 12 2023, a balance patch was introduced, making it 50% less likely to roll Seedlings when picking Fiesta.
